Latest Practitioner Award
The lates SPRINT Practitioner is Gary Holland a Senior Analyst at Wigan Council. Gary differs from all previous Practitioners in that he was unable to attend any of the Associate training delivered to Wigan, but was enthused by colleagues' reports about SPRINT and the training they had received. Gary scoured the SPRINT website for information and began to use SPRINT tools and techniques in his change activities.
Gary's submission was received in April this year and was assessed by Prof Dave Wastell (Chair: SPRINT Management Board) and Barrie McKinnon (Secretary: SPRINT Management Board). The award, validated today, is dated June 2012.

Managers as Designers
Professor Dave Wastell has published another case study on his web-site. It's by Sean Sheridan, former Director of Corporate Services, County Donegal.
The paper is entitled:
Developing an Integrated Approach to Performance Improvement: The Whole System of Work
Dave says...
“Sean performed this research as part of his studies on the MSc in Innovation Management in the Public Service (Letterkenny Institute of Technology/University of Ulster). I came across his work in my role as external examiner. I think it provides a great example of "managing as designing" in action, and I've received Sean's permission to publish it. The programme produced more excellent dissertations which I hope to publish in due course.”

SPRINT ListServer
Dear SPRINT colleague - Happy New Year! I'm writing to you as the Chairman of the SPRINT User Group Board to welcome you to the new listserver for the SPRINT community. Since its development at Salford City Council over 10 years ago, well over 1000 folk have been trained as SPRINT practitioners. Together with those who have otherwise registered an interest in SPRINT, we have 1800 or so email addresses in our database. This provides a formidable communal resource. Hence this listserver has been set up so that all can make use of it, to share experiences and assets, to let others know of developments in your locale, to seek help and so on. Sending a message to everyone on the list is easy - just send an email to the following address:

General information about the mailing list (including how to unsubscribe) can be found at: Policy for the list will evolve - for the moment, posts will be moderated with a light touch, and we will see how things progress. So please post away!!! David Wastell Chair, SPRINT User Group Board and SPRINT co-founder, Professor of Information Systems Nottingham University Business School, UK
SPRINT hosts visitors from Brazil
The success of SPRINT was further evidenced this week, when we hosted two visitors from Brazil. Mr. Rubens Pereira (social scientist and team leader) and Professor José Lasmar Director General of the Agência Metropolitana of Minas Gerais, visited the Civic Centre on Tuesday 24th November as part of a European trip that saw them visit CLG and LGA in London and the Andalucian provincial government in Seville, Spain. The visit was organized by Mr Rogerio Pereira (Secretaria de Estado de Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior – SECTES) who said in his initial communication,
“I read many articles and information about SPRINT on your website and the Internet and was very impressed with the actions and progress made in the United Kingdom. I think we have much to learn from the successful experiences of SPRINT. There is concern in Minas Gerais's government to seek and build international cooperation agreements with organizations in the greater reference in the best practices for public administration such as SPRINT.”

Do you wonder why so and so is in the position that (s)he is in? Then this article is for you!! There is a nice little scientific hypothesis that the more incompetent you are the less likely you are to recognise it! Survey Data Preliminary ReportAs promised, we are publishing a preliminary, fairly crude analysis of the replies to the recent SPRINT survey. This is a sample from the returned data, which we will further analyse and report on fully over the next few days. The further analysis will include both data and graphs - to whet your appetite we have published some headline numbers today. Thanks very much for your help so far.
